Dr. Althea Clark is a psychotherapist who provides individual and group psychotherapy and conducts psychological assessments and evaluations. Dr. Clark has a special interest in multicultural related issues and trauma related work within the military population. She also provides training and consultation to other professionals, and she holds community webinars in collaboration with other mental health providers. She has been in the mental health field for over 28 years, holding various roles in many diverse settings, including residential treatment centers, behavioral schools, community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, and private clinics. Dr. Clark works with a broad range of psychopathology, such as mood related disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex Trauma, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders, and substance use related issues.
Dr. Clark has earned dual master’s degrees: in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, and Clinical Psychology. She has also earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Neuropsychology. Dr. Clark has completed an APA (American Psychological Association) accredited training residency in the Great Lakes region and gained the opportunity to work with complex trauma cases and substance use disorders in rural Indiana. This included working with families in the Department of Family Services (DFS) and juvenile court. In addition. Clark has also supervised master’s level interns from Indiana University and case managers for the county schools.
Dr. Clark has been involved in various nonprofit organizations as a board member and volunteer since 2007. She is also involved in community projects in the Philippines, including her commitment and pledge to help ensure the advanced education of five disadvantaged girls in the Philippines. Additionally, she is one of the Executive Directors for Juvenile Justice Impact (JJI), a nonprofit organization that provides services for high-risk youth to prevent the revolving door of incarceration. She is also a fundraising volunteer for the Be-A-Shero Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides intervention, prevention and shelter for sex trafficking victims and sexually exploited women and children. Dr. Clark also holds the position as a fundraising event co-chair for Hero School Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to our homeless population through education, housing and employment assistance. Furthermore, Dr. Clark is also a strong advocate to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Thus, she accepted the opportunity to be one of the speakers for National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) conference. Global Platinum Awards recognized Dr. Clark as a Distinguished Humanitarian and Philanthropist. The United States Senate and congress also gave her a special recognition for her humanitarian work.
Additionally, Dr. Clark is preparing to launch a podcast, On the Couch with Dr. Althea. This podcast aims to inspire people, especially the younger population, to shed light on life’s ups and downs and to illustrate that the path to achievement is often filled with obstacles. It will celebrate the strength, determination, and tenacity needed to navigate the journey to success.
Dr. Clark is a multilingual Filipino American who immigrated to the United States from the Philippines in 1991 with her parents and four siblings. Her maternal side of the family consisted of several medical doctors, who helped reduce the doctor shortages in the 1960s and 1970s. Eventually, the entire family moved to the US to continue to realize their own professional goals. Dr. Clark resided in Louisiana during her early years in the US. She completed her undergraduate studies at McNeese State University, where she served as both the Vice President and President for the International Students Association (ISA). Her involvement with ISA ignited her love for culture and world travel. Additionally, she is a also proponent of mind and body wellness, and is passionate about engaging in various physical, mental and spiritual disciplines and self-care activities, such as listening to live music, practicing her passion for photography and experimenting with gourmet cuisine. She currently resides in the city of Las Vegas and maintains her involvement in numerous community events and causes.
